de Carvalho, Ricardo Oliano; Machado, Miguel Borges; Lopes, Raquel Soares; Scherer, Vinícius Saldanha; Cruz, Wagner Alexandre; da Luz, Maria Laura G. Silva; da Luz, Carlos Alberto Silveira; Gadotti, Gisele Ingrid; Gomes, Mário Conill.
The pepper tree (Schinus terebinthifolius) is a tree native to Atlantic whose planting is seen as an alternative to agricultural diversification. Besides being suitable for reforestation, its fruit, known as pink pepper, pepper or brazilia-poivre rose, is widely used in European cuisine. This paper aimed to design an agribusiness for processing the fruits of 100 trees planted in planting planned or consortium, as well as restore degraded areas, this needs a small area for planting. Lining surveyed the procedures used for drying of pink pepper as well as those required for the marketing of this spice patterns. The starting process is the manual collection and pre-cleaning stage where pepper is separated from branches and leaves, the product follows after...

Avaliação de genótipos de Capsicum para resistência ao ácaro branco Horticultura Brasileira
Echer,Márcia M.; Fernandes,Maria C.A.; Ribeiro,Raul L.D.; Peracchi,Adriano L..

DIVERSITY OF ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZAL FUNGI IN HORTICULTURAL PRODUCTION SYSTEMS OF SOUTHERN CHILE J. Soil Sci. Plant Nutr.
Castillo,C; Rubio,R; Borie,F; Sieverding,E.
The diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi in six Capsicum annuum or Lycopersicum escuíentum L. horticultural production systems of small farmers, and of two wheat agrosystems was comparatively investigated in Southern Chile (La Araucania). Soils in this region are mostly originated by volcanic ashes which are characterized by high organic matter content and high P-fixing capacity. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal symbioses are playing a key role for P uptake by horticultural crops grown there. The objective of this study was to determine AM fungal communities in cropping systems and to identify soil factors affecting their frequency and diversity. Of the totally 32 AM fungal species identified, 5 to 21 AM fungi species were found in horticultural...

Rubio,MS; Laurentiz,AC; Sobrane Fº,ST; Mello,ES; Filardi,RS; Silva,MLA; Laurentiz,RS.
ABSTRACT Piper cubeba is an Asian pepper used in popular medicine for its known antimicrobial, antiparasitic, and anti-inflammatory actions. The study evaluated the effects of dietary inclusion of Piper cubeba ethanolic extract (PE) as a replacement for anantibiotic growth promoter (AGP) on the performance and biochemical serum profile of 1- to 21-d-old broilers (Cobb®). Two hundred one-d-old broilers were housed in experimental battery cages and distributed in a completely randomized design. The following treatments were applied: negative control (NC) - basal diet; positive control (PC) - basal diet with addition of AGP; and the basal diet with inclusion of 0.17%, 0.34%, and 0.52% of PE (NCE1, NCE2, and NCE3, respectively). Growth performance, biochemical...

Seasoning a Monopsonic Processor for Collective Action amongst Pepper Producers in Costa Rica AgEcon
Saenz-Segura, Fernando J.F.; Schipper, Robert A.; D'Haese, Marijke F.C..
The small-scale pepper producers in the El Roble settlement Costa Rica face a monopsonistic market. Only one processing firm is buying the fresh pepper bunches. The processor has all bargaining power to decide on the price paid to the farmers and the quality selection criteria. The rejection rates are high, which is why farmers decided to market their pepper collectively. They started organizing the selection and transport of pepper and entered into group contracts with the firm. We use a non-linear integer simulation model to predict the price level and contractual form (individual or group contracts) which maximises the income of the firm and farmers under three conditions, namely, monopsony (firm holds all bargaining power), monopoly (producers hold all...

Teodoro,Ana Flávia P; Alves,Rosa de BN; Ribeiro,Leandro B; Reis,Karina; Reifschneider,Francisco José B; Fonseca,Maria Esther de N; Silva,Joseane P da; Agostini-Costa,Tânia da S.
Fruits of Capsicum species (peppers) accumulate high amounts of ascorbic acid or vitamin C. C. chinense occurs in the Midwest and Northeast regions and the Amazon Basin (where its greatest genetic diversity is found). The objective of the present work was to quantify the vitamin C content in peppers of 22 accessions of C. chinense 'Habanero' from the Breeding Program of Embrapa Vegetable Crops. Vitamin C was extracted from mature fruits with TCEP-HCl (tris 2-carboxyethyl-phosphine hydrocloride) and its content determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Vitamin C content ranged from 54.1 to 129.8 mg/100 g. Accessions were divided into four heterogeneous groups of diversity. Vitamin C content of the first group varied between 116.2 and...

การใช้เซลล์แขวนลอยและสารสกัดหยาบของแบคทีเรีย Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 ในการควบคุมโรคแอนแทรคโนสบนผลพริก Thai Agricultural
Pattamawan Maneesuwan; Pisan Sirithorn.
The five concentrations of cell suspension of Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 each applied to reduce the disease symptom caused by Colletotrichum capsici using the detached fruit technique with Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The statistical analysis indicated that inoculation of cell suspension prior to inoculation of C. capsici gave more disease severity reduction than inoculation of C. capsici prior to inoculation of cell suspension. The optimal concentration that reduced disease severity; without adverse effect was at 1x104-1x105 cfu/ml prior to inoculation of C. capsici for 24 hours as disease severity was reduced by 35.8% and 34.8%, respectively. The cell suspension at the concentrations between 1x106 to 1x108 cfu/ml induced fruit rot to 10-50%....

ผลของแบคทีเรีย Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 ในการยับยั้งเชื้อรา Colletotrichum capsici สาเหตุโรคแอนแทรคโนสของพริก Thai Agricultural
Pattamawan Maneesuwan; Pisan Sirithorn.
Capability of 11 isolates of Bacillus spp. previously reported as antagonistic against some plant pathogens was tested. This is to inhibit the growth of four isolates of Colletotrichum capsici isolated from stalk, leaf, fruit and 158 ci/KU, by employing Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 11 treatments with 4 replications. The results showed that B. licheniformis BFP011 exhibited the most promising inhibition. Similarly, the evaporated crude extract produced by B. licheniformis BFP011 was able to inhibit greatly growth of C. capsici. When mycelium and spores of C. capsici were immersed in cell suspension at 1x108 cfu/ml and the evaporated crude extract at 1,000 mg/ml of B. licheniformis BFP011 for 24 hours. It is obvious that abnormal hypha...
